Description

A delicious and satisfying vegetarian Aloo Tikki Burger made from spiced potatoes, combining Indian flavors with a classic burger format.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large potatoes (boiled, peeled and mashed)
  • 1 white bread slice (soaked in water or ½ cup breadcrumbs)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chat masala
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • ¼ teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 green chili (chopped, optional)
  • ¼ cup chopped onions
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander (cilantro leaves)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (for coating)
  • Oil (for shallow frying)
  • 4 brioche or regular burger buns (split)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup chili mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sliced onions
  • 1 large ripe tomato (thinly sliced)
  • French fries (to serve)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, soaked bread or breadcrumbs, turmeric, cumin, chat masala, garam masala, red chili powder, chopped green chili (if using), onions, and coriander. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into round patties. Roll each patty in breadcrumbs to coat them evenly.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the patties in the pan. Fry the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  4. Meanwhile, lightly toast the burger buns in another pan with butter until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the burger by spreading chili mayo on each side of the bun. Place the potato patty on the bottom half, followed by sliced onions and tomatoes. Cover with the top half of the bun.

Notes

Serve hot with a side of French fries. You can add toppings such as lettuce, cheese, or pickles. This burger pairs well with extra chili mayonnaise for dipping.
