Description

A creamy, cheesy delight that elevates any meal, perfect as a side dish for special dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the flour and whisk to form a paste.
  4. Gradually pour in the heavy cream, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens.
  5. Add the salt, pepper, and nutmeg and stir until combined.
  6. Add the sliced potatoes to the sauce and stir to coat.
  7. Transfer the potatoes and sauce to a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil, sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over the top of the potatoes, and return to the oven, uncovered, for an additional 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure potato slices are uniform in thickness. You can experiment with different cheeses for varied flavors.
