A rich and hearty sauce perfect for pasta, this Authentic Bolognese Sauce combines ground beef, pork, and aromatic vegetables for an Italian classic.


Ingredients

  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 2 cans (14 oz each) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh basil, for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté until they soften and become fragrant.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic, cooking just until it becomes aromatic.
  3. Add the ground beef and ground pork, cooking until browned and thoroughly cooked through.
  4. Pour in the red wine, allowing it to simmer until most of the alcohol evaporates.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  7. Serve the sauce over cooked pasta, garnishing with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For even richer flavor, allow the sauce to simmer for 1-2 hours if time permits. Use high-quality meats and fresh vegetables for the best results.
