Description

A comforting and savory beef roast that is perfect for family gatherings and special occasions.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 kilograms beef
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 fresh lemons, juice
  • 3 medium potatoes
  • 1 can liver spread
  • 3 star anise
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 tbsp margarine
  • 60g grated cheese
  • 2 pcs bell peppers
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 pc beef cube
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • Ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef with lemon juice, soy sauce, and ground black pepper for about 1 hour and strain the marinade sauce.
  2. Fry the potatoes in oil until cooked through and set aside.
  3. Sauté garlic in margarine until golden brown, then add diced onion and sliced bell peppers until tender.
  4. Add bay leaves and tomato paste, stirring for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the marinated beef and sauté until browned.
  6. Incorporate liver spread, tomato sauce, and strained marinade, and sauté for 5 minutes.
  7. Pour in water and add the beef cube, letting it simmer until the beef is tender.
  8. Add star anise and brown sugar, cooking until sauce thickens.
  9. Serve with fried potatoes and rice as a complete meal.

Notes

For a heart-healthy version, opt for lean cuts of beef and low-sodium soy sauce. This dish can also be made in a slow cooker.
