Description
Transform an ordinary meal into an extraordinary feast with this homemade pizza recipe that brings family and friends together.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Your choice of toppings (pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives, etc.)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a small bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a larger bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a bowl coated with olive oil, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Make the Sauce: While the dough is rising, prepare the sauce. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- Shape the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- Assemble the Pizza: Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or an upside-down baking sheet. Spread a layer of sauce evenly over the base, leaving a small border for the crust. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese generously across the sauce and add any additional toppings you desire.
- Bake the Pizza: If using a stone, carefully slide the pizza onto it. If using a baking sheet, place it directly in the oven. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and starting to brown.
- Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, slice, and enjoy!
Notes
Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Allow the dough to rise properly for optimal texture, and preheat the oven fully for a crispier crust.
