Description

A classic Italian appetizer featuring toasted bread topped with a flavorful mixture of tomatoes, garlic, and basil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of French bread or baguette
  • 4 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup of fresh basil, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the French bread into 1/2 inch thick slices.
  3. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and brush them lightly with olive oil.
  4. Toast the bread in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.
  5. In a bowl, mix the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, chopped basil, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  6. Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  7. Top each slice of toasted bread with the tomato mixture.
  8. Serve immediately or allow it to reach room temperature.

Notes

For the best flavor, use ripe, in-season tomatoes. Let the assembled bruschetta sit for a few minutes before serving to blend the flavors.
