Description

This copycat recipe brings the delicious sweetness and savory flavors of a Honey Baked Ham right into your home, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-pound) half spiral cut ham, bone in or boneless
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325ºF and place the oven rack in the lower third part of the oven. Cover a roasting pan or rimmed baking sheet with foil and coat the metal wire rack insert with cooking spray.
  2. Remove the ham from its package. If using a bone-in ham, remove the plastic cap that’s over the bone. Place the ham flat-side down on the roasting rack.
  3. Combine the melted butter and honey in a small bowl. Pat the ham dry with paper towels and use a pastry brush or your hands to slather the butter-honey mixture all over the outside and in between the slices.
  4. Add about a cup of water to the bottom of the roasting pan to create a moist environment while baking.
  5. Bake covered for about 150 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer registers 140ºF when inserted into the thickest part of the ham.
  6. Remove the ham from the oven and cover it loosely with aluminum foil to keep it warm.
  7. Combine the remaining granulated sugar and spices in a small bowl to create a spice-sugar mixture. Uncover the ham and baste with pan juices if dry, then pat the spice-sugar mixture all over the ham.
  8. Return the ham to the oven and broil until caramelized and bubbly, or use a blow torch if preferred.
  9. Bring the remaining sugar mixture with about 1/3 cup of ham drippings to a boil in a small saucepan until it reaches a glaze consistency, about 2 minutes.
  10. Brush the glaze over the ham and broil for another 1-2 minutes until bubbly.
  11. Remove from the oven and let the ham rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Select a high-quality spiral cut ham for best flavor. Don’t skip the glaze to ensure a crunchy exterior that pairs well with tender meat.
