Ingredients

  • 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or gruyere)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the baking dish)
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, then pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.

  7. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  8. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes, garnish with parsley if desired, and serve.

Notes

Use a mandoline for evenly sliced potatoes to help them cook evenly. You can add more cheese for an extra cheesy flavor. Consider adding cooked bacon or ham for a savory twist.
