Description

A quick and flavorful dish that brings the sweet and savory taste of Chinese takeout right into your kitchen. Perfect for busy weeknights or impressing guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-size pieces (12 inches / 2.55 cm)
  • Vegetable or canola oil, enough to fill skillet about 1 inch (2.5 cm)
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Toasted sesame seeds
  • Sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C) to keep chicken warm.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment or foil.
  3. In a saucepan, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and black pepper.
  4. In a bowl, whisk egg whites, salt, and cornstarch until combined.
  5. In a skillet, heat enough oil to fill it about 1 inch deep over medium-high heat.
  6. Dip chicken pieces in egg white mixture and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Transfer cooked chicken to the prepared baking sheet and keep warm in the oven.
  8. Pour the sauce into the skillet and simmer until slightly thickened (about 2 minutes).
  9. Return chicken to the skillet and toss to coat.
  10. Serve garnished with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Notes

For extra crispiness, double dip the chicken in egg whites and cornstarch before frying. Adjust the sweetness of the sauce according to your preference.
