Description

Tender Salisbury steaks cooked in a rich gravy, perfect for busy weeknights and customizable to your preferences.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef (85% lean)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, minced garlic, milk, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4-6 oval patties, about ¾ inch thick.
  3. Brown patties in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side, if desired.
  4. Place the browned patties in the slow cooker.
  5. Whisk together beef broth, soy sauce, and ketchup; pour over the patties.
  6. Add mushrooms on top, if using.
  7. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  8. Mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry; add 30 minutes before serving to thicken the gravy.
  9. Serve with gravy poured over the patties and garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

Don’t overmix the meat mixture to keep it tender. Browning patties adds flavor. Adjust gravy thickness as desired by varying cornstarch.
