Ingredients

- 4 cups milk (or almond milk)
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup sugar (or sweetener of choice)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup whiskey or rum (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until well combined.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
- Slowly add the hot milk to the egg mixture while whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook on low heat until it thickens slightly.
- Stir in the vanilla extract, nutmeg, and whiskey or rum if using.
- Chill in the refrigerator before serving.
- Serve cold, garnished with additional nutmeg.
Notes
For a richer flavor, let the eggnog chill overnight before serving. Ensure to use pasteurized eggs for safety.
