Ingredients
Scale
- 1 10-oz can French onion soup
- 1 1-oz envelope dry onion soup mix
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
- 2.5 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 cups shredded gruyere cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Combine the condensed soup, dry soup mix, and melted butter in a large bowl, then stir well.
- Add the potatoes to the soup mixture and stir to coat.
- Pour everything into a 13×9 baking dish, then spread the potatoes evenly into the dish.
- Cover tightly with aluminum foil, then bake at 375°F for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and continue cooking for 30-45 minutes, stirring 2-3 times to ensure even cooking, until the potatoes are tender.
- Top with shredded cheese, cover the dish tightly with foil, and let the potatoes rest for about 5-10 minutes to soak up the soup mixture and allow the cheese to melt.
Notes
Use fresh cheese for better melting and flavor. Feel free to add cooked bacon or sautéed mushrooms for extra taste.
