Description

A juicy and flavorful roast turkey infused with garlic and fresh herbs, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole turkey (1215 pounds)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 10 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • Fresh herbs (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Remove the turkey from its packaging, take out the giblets, and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. In a bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, rosemary, thyme, sage, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until combined.
  4. Carefully separate the turkey skin from the breast using your hands. Gently spread half of the garlic herb butter mixture under the skin and massage the remaining butter all over the turkey.
  5. Season the cavity of the turkey with additional salt and pepper.
  6. Tie the turkey legs together with kitchen twine and tuck the wing tips under the bird.
  7. Place the turkey breast side up in a roasting pan. Pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  8. Roast the turkey for about 13 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the breast and thigh.
  9. Baste the turkey every 30 minutes with the juices from the pan to ensure it remains moist.
  10. If the skin looks less golden during the final hour of roasting, cover the breasts loosely with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning.
  11. Once cooked, carefully remove the turkey from the oven. Tent it with aluminum foil and let it rest for 30 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
  12. After resting, carve the turkey and serve it garnished with fresh herbs.
  13. Use a large platter to arrange the turkey and its garnishes beautifully.

Notes

Make the garlic herb butter ahead of time for convenience. Baste frequently while roasting, and let the turkey rest after cooking for juicier meat.
