Ingredients

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, spices, and salt until combined.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and molasses until well blended.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, blending until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface and cut into shapes using cookie cutters.
- Place cut cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes until firm.
- Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating.
Notes
Chill the dough for at least an hour for better handling. Use fresh spices for optimal flavor.
