Description
Homemade crispy fried onions that are perfect for topping on green bean casseroles, burgers, and more.
Ingredients

- 2.5 cups Homemade (or store-bought) buttermilk
- 4 cups Thinly sliced onions, halved and in rings
- 3 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp Fresh ground pepper
- 4 cups Vegetable oil
Instructions
- Soak the onions in buttermilk for at least 10 minutes.
- In a shallow dish, combine flour, kosher salt, and ground pepper.
- Heat vegetable oil to about 375°F.
- Dredge buttermilk-soaked onions in the flour mixture.
- Fry the coated onions in hot oil until golden brown.
- Drain on a paper towel-lined plate and repeat with remaining onions.
- Store in an airtight container or serve immediately.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding garlic powder, dried herbs, or grated Parmesan to the flour mix.
