Description

A delightful and easy-to-prepare dish that brings the vibrant flavors of Korean cuisine to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1.5-inch pieces
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Asian five spice (optional)
  • 3 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce or 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 2 teaspoons corn starch
  • Steamed rice or cooked noodles for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing the BBQ sauce. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sriracha, and minced garlic. Bring this mixture to a boil.
  2. Mix together the cold water and corn starch in a small bowl until fully dissolved. Stir this mixture into the boiling sauce to thicken it. Once thickened, remove from heat and divide into two bowls, setting one aside for later.
  3. Skewer the chicken pieces onto metal or soaked wooden skewers. Season with salt, pepper, and optional Asian five spice.
  4. Brush the chicken with the BBQ sauce from the first bowl. Grill over medium heat for about 8-10 minutes, turning and brushing with additional sauce periodically.
  5. Serve the grilled chicken over steamed rice or cooked noodles, drizzling the reserved sauce on top and garnishing with finely chopped green onions. Enjoy!

Notes

For added flavor, marinate the chicken in the sauce for at least an hour or overnight before grilling. Using a meat thermometer ensures that the chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F.
