Description

A healthy twist on classic burger flavors using cabbage as a low-carb alternative to buns.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small head cabbage (cut into thick slices)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for brushing)
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey (or ground chicken or plant-based options)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large egg (optional, for binding)
  • 1 cup cheese (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or lightly greasing it to prevent sticking.
  2. Brush the cabbage slices with olive oil on both sides and arrange them on the baking sheet, leaving enough space in between each piece.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat of your choice, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and the egg if you are using it. Mix until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Take a tablespoon of the meat mixture and gently mold it into a patty shape and place it on top of each cabbage slice.
  5. Once all patties have been formed and placed on the cabbage, sprinkle cheese generously over each burger.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use a meat thermometer to ensure burgers reach an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
