Ingredients

- 2 lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
- 2–3 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Toppings: Shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, avocado slices, tortilla chips (optional)
Instructions
- Prep Your Ingredients: Gather and chop all your ingredients to make the cooking process smooth.
- Brown the Meat: In a large pot, cook the ground beef (or turkey) over medium heat until it’s browned. Drain excess fat.
- Sauté the Vegetables: Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are soft.
- Build the Base: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Add the Tomatoes and Broth: Pour in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir well to combine.
- Let It Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes.
- Add the Beans: Stir in the kidney beans and pinto beans. Let it continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes.
- Taste and Adjust: Check the seasoning and adjust if needed.
- Serve and Enjoy!: Ladle the chili into bowls and add your favorite toppings.
Notes
Feel free to adjust the chili powder based on your heat preference. The chili can also be made in a slow cooker.
