- 1 standing rib roast (prime rib), 5–6 lbs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- Fresh herbs (such as rosemary and thyme), to taste
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Rub the prime rib with olive oil, then season generously with salt, pepper, minced garlic, and fresh herbs.
- Place the roast in a roasting pan with the fat side up.
- Roast in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue to roast until the meat reaches your desired doneness, about 90-120 minutes for medium-rare.
- Baste the roast with the juices every 30 minutes.
- Once done, let the prime rib rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
