  • 2 cups yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter (or vegan option)
  • 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for vegetarian option)
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or Italian seasoning)
  • 1 package crescent roll dough
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese (or any melting cheese)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions.
  2. Cook the onions until they start to caramelize, about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
  3. Once the onions are golden and soft, add the beef broth and vinegar. Stir in the thyme leaves and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes until thickened.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Roll out the crescent dough and cut it into squares fitting a mini muffin tin.
  6. Place each square into the muffin tin, pressing down slightly.
  7. Fill each cup with the onion mixture and top with Gruyère cheese.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the dough is golden and cheese is bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
