Description
Savory French Onion Soup Bites combine the traditional flavors of French onion soup into bite-sized treats, featuring caramelized onions and melted cheese wrapped in flaky dough.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter (or vegan option)
- 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for vegetarian option)
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or Italian seasoning)
- 1 package crescent roll dough
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese (or any melting cheese)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions.
- Cook the onions until they start to caramelize, about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- Once the onions are golden and soft, add the beef broth and vinegar. Stir in the thyme leaves and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes until thickened.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the crescent dough and cut it into squares fitting a mini muffin tin.
- Place each square into the muffin tin, pressing down slightly.
- Fill each cup with the onion mixture and top with Gruyère cheese.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the dough is golden and cheese is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
These bites can be garnished with extra thyme or chives. They pair well with a light salad or wine.
