- 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 carrots, sliced (optional)
- 1 bell pepper, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef cubes and sear until browned on all sides. Remove beef and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add chopped onions and cook until translucent. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Incorporate tomato paste into the onion and garlic mixture. Cook for about two minutes, then transfer this mixture to a slow cooker.
- Add seared beef back into the slow cooker. Pour in beef broth and stir in paprika, marjoram, salt, and pepper.
- If desired, add sliced carrots and chopped bell pepper to enhance flavor and nutrition.
- Cover the slow cooker and set to cook on low for 6 to 8 hours, or until the beef is tender and easily shreds.
- Serve warm goulash with crusty bread or over egg noodles.
Notes
Brown the beef well for a richer taste. Use fresh spices for the best flavor. Adjust seasoning according to taste.
