- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- Royal icing for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the molasses and egg until fully incorporated.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Place the cut-out cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until set but still soft to the touch.
- Allow to cool completely before decorating with royal icing.
