Description

A delicious cake perfect for celebrating love and affection on Valentine’s Day, combining rich flavors and beautiful presentation.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and dust them with flour to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium bowl, blend the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk to combine and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For added flavor, consider folding in berries or nuts, or add mint extract for a refreshing twist.
